Join us for an evening of classic library programming and a deepening appreciation of one classical text in particul ar\, The Odyssey\, and of ancient Greek literature in general. Christopher Nolan's new film adaptation of the Odyssey has garnered quite a bit of at tention and has made clear that this is a far from obscure text\, but one that continues to resonate with a wide range of people. \;The themes\ , struggles\, and story-telling techniques of the epic poem (and movie) ca pture a truly inclusive range of human readers and movie-goers. This event is open to attendees who have neither read the text or seen the film\, bu t are merely curious about this classic story. Learners of all ages are en couraged to attend!

\nDr. Johnson and Dr. Resinski will offer attendees the chance to learn s ome basic writing and pronunciation of the Greek alphabet as well as learn ing some of The Odyssey's lines in the original Greek. Attending this even t will give you the opportunity to make all the jokes you'd like about act ually speaking Greek! The event is free to attend and is intended for all ages and abilities as long as you can hold a pen/pencil (or marker) and ar e willing to feel a tad silly learning a new-to-you but ancient language.< /p>\n

\nAbout the facilitators:< /p>\n
Both event organizers are experts in classical literature (with Ph .D's in the field) and each has roughly twenty years of experience teachin g classics at the college level. \;Rebecca Resinski is on the faculty at Hendrix College (www.hendrix.edu/academicaffairs/profile .aspx?id=70783)\; Aaron Johnson recently moved to Con way and continues to do editorial work and independent research in Greek l iterature (see his previous works at https://independent.academia.edu/AaronJohnson292 ).
