Author \;Brinda Charry \;will discuss her new novel\, \;Hocus Pocu s. A young magician travels across the world&mdash\; winding up in Bo ston&mdash\; seeking fame and fortune all the while hiding a secret\, in a novel based on the renowned\, real-life Indian stage magicians performing in the 1800s. The book received starred reviews from \;Kirkus\, \ ;Publishers Weekly\, and \;Library Journal\, and received recommendati ons from the Boston Globe and \;New York Times. \;

Charry came to the United States from India as a graduate student in 1999 and has been living here since. Her first novel\, \;The East Indian\ , \;was awarded the Society of American Historians Prize for Historica l Fiction\, and was shortlisted and longlisted for several other awards an d recognitions. \;
