  co-hosted by artist David Garneau and guest Lori Campbell focussing on ou
 r current exhibition Dark Chapters following the themes in his paintings\,
  this circle will consider such issues as the role of art and the artist i
 n society\, Metis and Indigenous identities at home and away from home\, a
 nd conciliation beyond an Indigenous/Euro-Canadian binary.<br />&nbsp\;&nb
 sp\;<br />In his exhibition Dark Chapters\, David Garneau presents meticul
 ously rendered&nbsp\; metaphorical&nbsp\;still life&nbsp\;paintings&nbsp\;
 of objects set in intriguing\, deliberate arrangements. These configuratio
 ns&nbsp\;illustrate&nbsp\;the intertwined reality of modern and traditiona
 l Indigenous life alongside the complicated ramifications of colonization.
 &nbsp\;Garneau titled the exhibition Dark Chapters&nbsp\;to&nbsp\;conjure&
 nbsp\;Justice Murray Sinclair&rsquo\;s description of the residential scho
 ol system&nbsp\;in the&nbsp\;Reports&nbsp\;of the Truth and Reconciliation
  Commission&nbsp\;as &ldquo\;one of the darkest\, most troubling chapters
 in our nation&rsquo\;s history.&rdquo\;&nbsp\;As with traditional still li
 fe&nbsp\;painting\, the items in Garneau&rsquo\;s work carry deep&nbsp\;si
 gnificance\, associations\, and stories.&nbsp\;The titles of Garneau&rsquo
 \;s paintings are also an important part of his meaning-making\, which gui
 de viewers toward understanding&nbsp\;his&nbsp\;intention&nbsp\;while prom
 pting thoughtful dialogue around&nbsp\;reconciliation.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p><img
