Marcia Chatelain is \ ;a Provost's Distinguished Associate Professor of History and African Amer ican Studies at Georgetown University. She is a scholar of African-America n life and culture\, and her first book South Side Girls: Growing up i n the Great Migration \;reimagined the mass exodus of black South erners to the urban North from the perspective of girls and teenage women.
\nShe has been named a Ford Foundation Diversity Fellow (2012)\, Fr ench American Foundation Young Leader (2015)\, and National Endowment for the Humanities Faculty Fellow (2017-2018)\, among other awards. In 2016\, the Chronicle of Higher Education named her a Top Influencer in Higher Edu cation in recognition of her curation of #FergusonSyllabus\, a response to the crisis in Ferguson\, Missouri in 2014. She is also a 2019 Andrew Carn egie Fellow\, and \;a co-host on the Slate podcast\, &ldquo\;The Waves .&rdquo\;
