cate bluegrass picking.</p>\n<p>Magnolia Street String Band features Paul
Prestopino (Peter\, Paul &amp\; Mary/Chad Mitchell Trio) and Bobby Baxmeye
r (Steve Martin's Bright Star).&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Magnolia Street String Band
started in 2013 as an informal project among some friends\, meeting and p
icking in Highland Park\, New Jersey. In the summer of 2013\, they stumble
d into a booking for a local festival gig opening for Tony Trischka. To ge
t ready for the performance\, the band invited Paul Prestopino (illustriou
s backing player for Peter\, Paul and Mary\, The Chad Mitchell Trio and ma
ny others) to join their ranks. A couple of months later\, they added vete
ran NYC musician and master of all things stringed\, Bobby Baxmeyer. The n
ew members\, along with the original core of Matthew Backes and Sheila Shu
kla\, played their first gig in March 2014. Not long after\, renowned Phil
 ly-area bassist\, Ron Greenstein (Lewis Brothers\, Skookil Express\, Travi
s Wetzel Trio) joined the group\, bringing rock solid\, driving rhythm.</p
 >\n<p>Since 2014 the band has played a steady stream of shows to ever larg
er and more appreciative audiences. They have played at festival stages\,
state fairs\, hootenannies\, honky tonks\, and more refined events as well
. Their music is grounded in traditional bluegrass with elements of cosmic
Americana\, country\, and old-time as well as original compositions mixed
in. The band&rsquo\;s sound features powerful three-part harmonies and co
mpelling instrumentals. Overall\, their take on bluegrass feels old but re
levant\, traditional but personal\, and well crafted but soulful and direc
t.</p>\n<p>Their first full-length album\, Wrong Side of the Rain\, was re
leased in June\, 2019.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>At the conclusion of the program ple
