The Mars 2020 Rover's mission will be t o seek for signs of habitable conditions on Mars in the ancient past as we ll as for signs of past microbial life itself. The rover will be using a d rill that can collect core samples and set them aside on the surface of Ma rs for a future mission to potentially return them to Earth. \;
\n< p>The mission will also demonstrate technologies that address the challeng es of future human expeditions to Mars. These include testing a method for producing oxygen from the Martian atmosphere\, identifying resources (suc h as subsurface water)\, improving landing techniques\, and characterizing weather\, dust\, and other potential environmental conditions that could affect future astronauts living and working on Mars.\nPaul Cirillo has a Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers University and is a member o f the New Jersey Astronomical Association\, which operates the largest pub lic observatory in New Jersey. He was also the founder of Somerset County& rsquo\;s 4-H Space &\; Astronomy Club and its leader for ten years.
