This book includes sixty-four essays&nb sp\;on topics that include birds\, mammals\, insects\, trees\, shrubs\, he rbaceous \;plants\, as well as topics such as the meaning of beauty in nature\, plant succession over time\, how plant communities work\, and wh y it is important to know the names of plants.
\nThe essays are 600- 1200 words long and are written for the educated layman\, not for speciali sts in botany or biology. \;
\nEvery essay is illustrated by at least one photograph\, taken by the author\, who is an award-winning photo grapher.
\nAbout the author &\; photographer\, Jim Amon:
\nFor twenty nine years\, Jim Amon was the Executive Director of the D&\; R Canal Commission\, planning for and overseeing the development of the D& amp\;R Canal from its condition as an abandoned waterway to its present st atus as the most visited park in the State of New Jersey. \;
\nH e spent ten years as the Director of Stewardship for the D&\;R Greenway Land Trust\, doing ecological restoration work on over 100 nature preserv es. Jim has also served as a Sourland Conservancy board member\, volunteer and hike leader for several years. \; \;
