 4348</a></p>\n<p>The Chinese knot is a symbol of beauty and wisdom of the 
 Chinese ancient civilization.&nbsp\;Before Chinese written characters were
  developed\, people tied knots to make records of their lives. The size an
 d shape indicated the significance and nature of an event. Paper cutting i
 s one of the most popular decorative Chinese handicrafts.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;The
 y&nbsp\;are made of red paper and are used during festivals like Lunar New
  Year\, weddings\, and birthdays&nbsp\;to express hopes and wishes\, as we
 ll as&nbsp\;to symbolize luck\, happiness\, and longevity.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>
 This workshop is recommended for children in grades 3 and up.</p>\n<p>Pres
 ented by Murray Hill Chinese School.</p>\n<p>Supplies needed:</p>\n<p>1. 2
  pieces of 8 1/2" x 11"&nbsp\; (letters size) paper.&nbsp\; Red is the bes
 t\, but other colors also work.&nbsp\;<br />2. Print and cut out the attac
 hed template for Chinese character "Luck"&nbsp\; and the&nbsp\; two " Ox" 
 patterns.<br />3. 1 piece of 3mm or thicker satin cord or parachute cord\,
 &nbsp\;24".&nbsp\;<br />4. 1 piece of 0.8mm or 1.4mm or 1.5mm statin or me
 tallic cord/string\, 36".<br />(for 4. and 5.\, you'll want a piece of thi
 cker cord\, and a piece of thinner cord with two different colors that com
 pliment each other)<br />5. 2 jewelry beads with holes big enough for two 
 of your thinner cords to go through together.<br />6. Will also need: a pa
 ir of scissors\, a pencil\, removable tape/stapler and a hole puncher (opt
