\nClimate c hange is a real threat and there is plenty of buzz about how to pull green house gasses\, like CO2\, out of the atmosphere. Soil is the largest terre strial pool of carbon in the world and deeper understanding of how carbon ends up in soil\, and how long it stays there\, can inform actions to dire ctly address global climate change. Elizabeth will provide an overview of soil carbon\, why we care\, and how conserving and restoring land in Illin ois can be part of global climate solutions.
\nDr. Elizabeth Bach is the Ecosystem Restoration Scientist with The Nature Conservancy at Nachus a Grasslands in Franklin Grove\, Illinois where she works with scientists\ , land managers\, and volunteer stewards to investigate questions about ta llgrass prairie restoration ecology. Her own research expertise focuses on soil ecology\, exploring how belowground biology supports tallgrass prair ie ecosystems through plant-soil interactions and nutrient and carbon cycl ing. Prior to joining The Nature Conservancy\, Elizabeth served as Executi ve Director for the Global Soil Biodiversity Initiative and continues to c ontribute to global science-policy work.
