Thurgood Marshall was a fearless attorney\ , a steadfast believer in the United States Constitution\, and a civil rig hts activist. Marshall fought for stronger gun control\, woman&rsquo\;s ri ghts to an abortion\, opposed the death penalty\, and was an advocate for prison reform. His early life and his opinions were not without controvers y. He publicly denounced the efforts of both Martin Luther King\, Jr. and Malcolm X. Marshall held fast to his belief in the strength of the law\, t he courts\, and the U.S. Constitution believing them\, providing the only sustainable solutions to racial injustice. He would later in life change c ourse on his law-only approach.
