Learn some local history while celebrating Black History Month with this online program about one of the most famous horse trainers of his day. Tom Bass was born into slavery on the Bass Pla ntation south of Columbia\, where he learned the horse trade from his gran dfather. After moving to Mexico\, Missouri\, Tom gained a reputation as a gentle but effective trainer of even the most difficult horses. By the 189 0s\, he had achieved worldwide recognition as one of the best in his field .
