 rt C. Plumb traces these five remarkable women&rsquo\;s (Harriet Tubman\, 
 Harriet Beecher Stowe\, Clara Barton\, Julia Ward Howe\, and Sarah Josepha
  Hale) awakenings to analyze how their experiences shaped their responses 
 to the challenges\, disappointments\, and joys they encountered on their m
 issions.</p>\n<p>These five women came from backgrounds that ranged from a
 bject enslavement to New York City&rsquo\;s elite. Surmounting social and 
 political obstacles\, they emerged before and during the worst crisis in A
 merican history\, the Civil War. Their actions became strands in a tapestr
 y of courage\, truth\, and patriotism that influenced the lives of million
 s&mdash\;and illuminated a new way forward for the nation.</p>\n<p>After h
 e retired from the corporate world\, Plumb began researching and writing w
 hat would become&nbsp\;Your Brother in Arms: A Union Soldier&rsquo\;s Odys
 sey. He received a grant to conduct research for this project from the Taw
 ani Foundation\, parent organization of The Pritzker Military Library in C
 hicago.&nbsp\; His second book\,&nbsp\;The Better Angels: Five Women Who C
 hanged Civil War America\, was published in March 2020 by the University o
 f Nebraska Press.&nbsp\; He has spoken on Civil War topics throughout the 
 Eastern and Middle Atlantic states.</p>\n<p>Join us for this special prese
