DESCRIPTION:The Spotted lanternfly (SLF) is an invasive insect native to C
 hina\, India\, and Vietnam\, that threatens U.S. agricultural\, logging\,
 and tourism industries..\nhttps://sclsnj.libnet.info/event/4894585

ed in Berks County\, PA in 2014\, the pest demonstrated its&nbsp\;detrimen
tal impact upon plant growth and fruit production as its&nbsp\;populations
exponentially increased and spread. First confirmed in New Jersey in 2018
\, the spotted&nbsp\;lanternfly&nbsp\;has since been recorded in all 21 co
unties. The highest populations of the insect persist in the counties clos
er to Pennsylvania\, but it is expected that we will see significant popul
ation growth in most areas of NJ in the coming years.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>In ad
dition to harming plant resources\, SLF can pose a deterrent to&nbsp\;outd
 oor recreation.&nbsp\;While feeding\, the spotted&nbsp\;lanternfly&nbsp\;e
xcretes copious&nbsp\;amounts of a sticky substance called honeydew. When
large populations of SLF become established\, they produce such huge quant
ities of honeydew that&nbsp\;outdoor activity can be very unpleasant.</p>\
n<p>This one hour program covers the biology of the spotted lanternfly inc
luding the life cycle\, feeding behavior\, economic damage\, and Federal a
nd State efforts to slow the spread of this&nbsp\;dangerous nuisance pest.
</p>\n<p>Find out how to recognize the insect when it moves into your area
and learn what you can do to help minimize the threat.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Pre
