\nIn reco gnition of the 200-year anniversary of Mexican independence from Spain\, t he Education Department from the Hispanic Society Museum and Library will be discussing museum objects related to Mexican heritage.
\nThis pro gram will cover a period between the years 1500 and 1920\, including paint ing\, ceramics\, cartography\, cut paper\, prints\, and photographs.
\n\;About The Hispanic Society:
\nLocated in Washington Height s\, New York City\, The Hispanic Society Museum and Library constitutes th e most extensive collection of Hispanic art and literature outside of Spai n and Latin America. Our founder Archer Milton Huntington&rsquo\;s fascina tion with Spanish culture started at the age of twelve\; by fourteen he ha d begun to study the Spanish language\; and by nineteen he revealed his as piration to found a &ldquo\;Spanish Museum.&rdquo\; As Huntington&rsquo\;s enthusiasm grew he became increasingly committed to the creation of an in stitution that would encompass all facets of Hispanic culture. As a result \, he founded the Hispanic Society in 1904.
\nIn total\, the museum holds more than 30\,000 objects including paintings\, drawings\, prints\, sculptures\, ceramics\, ironworks\, textiles\, and jewelry\; 175\,000 phot ographs of Spain and Latin America\; and a library with more than 250\,000 books and newspapers\, including 15\,000 volumes printed before 1701.
