Tyehimba Jess is a storyteller and engagin g performer whose work has focused on music\, biography\, and African-Amer ican history. A Detroit native and 2017 Pulitzer Prize-winning poet\, Jess will read from Olio\, his award-winning collection of poetry that weaves together sonnet\, song\, and narrative to examine the lives of mostly unre corded\, African American performers directly before and after the Civil W ar up to World War I. A book signing will follow in the McMaster Lobby.
\n\;&ldquo\;I Got a Lust for Life&rdquo\;: The Unique Words and S ounds of Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan is a free\, one-day\, publi c program that includes panels\, musical performances\, and literary readi ngs in Toledo and Detroit. It explores the synergies between\, and the dis tinct languages of\, northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan across music ge nres and storytelling practices.
