X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>Vanessa Brantley-Newton's passion for chil
dren&rsquo\;s books began when she came across&nbsp\;Snowy Day&nbsp\;by Ez
ra Jack Keats as a child in the 1960s.&nbsp\;Snowy Day&nbsp\;marked one of
the first representations of black children in picture books\, and seeing
a character that looked like her and lived in a neighborhood like her own
was a turning point in Vanessa&rsquo\;s life. Vanessa celebrates self-lov
e and acceptance of all cultures through her work and hopes to inspire you
ng readers as Keats did for her and a generation of children.</p>\n<p>Toda
 y Ms. V\, a self-taught artist\, doll maker\, crafter\, and author/illustr
ator of approximately 80 books for children\, will read-aloud from her boo
ks\, talk about her creative process\, and conduct a Show-n-Tell of her pe
rsonal sketchbooks. She will also guide us through a hands-on art project.
