Dr. Hilary Green\, Associate Professor of History\, Department of Gender and Race Studies\, University of Alabama wi ll discuss "Veterans\, Comrades\, and Leaders: African American Civil War Veterans in Northeastern North Carolina" on Sunday\, June 20\, 2021 at 2 p m via Zoom. Dr. Green offers an overview of the ways that African American veterans of the Civil War leveraged the Civil War service through parades \, participation in the Grand Army of the Republic and other activities. T hese men contributed to the various ways in which African American underst andings of the Civil War persisted into the twentieth century. Dr. Greene has written numerous articles\, books\, and is a co-editor with J. Brent M orris of the "Reconstruction Reconsidered" series through the University o f South Carolina Press. She is also active with "The Hallowed Grounds Proj ect" at the University of Alabama.
