Holt Cemetery was founded in 1879 to provi de relief for New Orleans cemeteries after the Yellow Fever epidemic of 18 78. This 7-acre cemetery is the final resting place of 1\,400+ military ve terans and many famous New Orleans residents including Buddy Bolden\, Jess ie Hill\, and Robert Charles.

Made possible by a grant obtained by the City of New Orleans Department of Property Management\, Division of C emeteries\, this presentation will also provide research information and t echniques for family historians and genealogists. Gaynell Brady ear ned a BA in history and MA in museum studies from Southern University at N ew Orleans. She is currently a PhD candidate at Capella University in Minn eapolis\, MN. She has served as an interpretive park ranger for the Nation al Park Service and as a museum educator at the Louisiana State Museum\, N ational World War II Museum\, and River Road African American Museum.
