bout the author:</em></p>\n<p><strong>Kyle Kondik</strong> is one of the n
ation&rsquo\;s top analysts of US House elections. He is the managing edit
or of <em>Sabato&rsquo\;s Crystal Ball</em>\, a nonpartisan election forec
asting newsletter published by the University of Virginia Center for Polit
ics. He is the author of <em>The Bellwether: Why Ohio Picks the President<
/em>\, and has edited and contributed to several recent books on US electi
ons. As a frequently cited expert on American politics\, Kondik has appear
 ed on CNN\, Fox News\, MSNBC\, PBS <em>NewsHour</em>\, and Comedy Central&
rsquo\;s <em>The Daily Show</em>\, and his writing has appeared in the <em
 >New York Times</em>\, <em>Washington Post</em>\, <em>Wall Street Journal<
 /em>\, <em>Politico Magazine</em>\, and other publications.<br /><br />Kon
 dik's latest book <em><strong>The Long Red&nbsp\;Thread&nbsp\;</strong></e
m>is an incisive study that shows how Republicans transformed the US House
of Representatives into a consistent GOP stronghold&mdash\;with or withou
t a majority.</p>\n<p>Long-term Democratic dominance in the US House of Re
presentatives gave way to a Republican electoral advantage and frequently
held majority following the GOP takeover in 1994. Republicans haven&rsquo\
;t always held the majority in recent decades\, but nationalization\, part
isan realignment\, and the gerrymandering of House seats have contributed
to a political climate in which they've had an edge more often than not fo
 r nearly thirty years.</p>\n<p><em>The Long Red Thread</em>&nbsp\;examines
each House election cycle from 1964 to 2020\, surveying academic and jour
nalistic literature to identify key trends and takeaways from more than a
half-century of US House election results in order to predict what America
ns can expect to see in the future.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p><em><strong>This even
t is part of Five Days for Democracy in partnership with the City Club of
 Cleveland.&nbsp\;</strong></em></p>\n<p><em><strong><a href="https://www.c

</a>Five Days for Democracy is an invitation for you to take just a little
bit of time each day\, for five days\, to think about what democracy mean
s to you. This year we're taking a look at how all politics is local: what
does local government look like\, who represents us\, and how can we impa
 ct city hall.</strong></em></p>\nhttps://cuyahoga.libnet.info/event/544245
