Orange Shirt Day (September 30) is a day w hen we honor the Indigenous children who were sent away to residential sch ools in Canada. Join us for a virtual story time as we read "The Orange Sh irt story" by Phyllis Webstad\, which is based around her real life experi ences as a residential school survivor. She tells the story of a young Phy llis\, whose grandmother had bought her a new orange shirt for her first d ay at St. \;Joseph's Mission residential school. When Phyllis got to s chool\, they took away her clothes\, including her new shirt. It was never returned.
\nBy listening to the stories and experiences of Indigeno us people\, we can further honour and bring awareness to the victims and s urvivors of Residential schools and the \;importance of reflecting on that part of our country's history.
