The artists-in-residence (and one writer-i n-residence) have been working for the last few months and invite the publ ic to come see their progress during First Friday Artwalk! Come visit thei r studios and check out their work. Tours of the building will also be ava ilable. The creators at The Hive are:
\nStudio A - Gwendolyn Zierdt Muzzy is a fiber artist who works on a draw loom\, incorporating QR codes and source code from the internet int o the \;designs of her handwoven textiles. \;
\nStudio B - < a href="https://www.miguelgonzales.com/">Miguel Gonzales \;is \;a Chicano artist interested in building a \;Loterí\;a \;of BIPOC leaders in Spokane as \;part of his goal of \;the developme nt of \;gente \;in the region \;who \;have \;experienc ed\, or are experiencing\, \;language\, culture\, and indigenous herit age loss. Miguel shares his studio with The Hive's writer-in-residence Erin Pringle who is working on her next novel. She is the author of multiple short story collections and chap books as well as one other novel. \;
\nStudio C - Shantell Jackson and Stefani Rossi \;are sharing a studio. They find \;that \;they are inspired by \;one another\, \; and their art \;benefits \;from this interaction. Shantell works w ith \;painted\, \;textured surfaces \;and is eager to scale he r work up with the \;space \;the \;studio provides. Stefani wa nts to explore a greater scale in her clay \;sculptures and her painti ngs \;that feature \;careful circles and lines. \; \;
\ nStudio D - Shawn Brigm an\, PhD\, an enrolled member of the Spokane Tribe of Indians and desc endant of northern Plateau bands (sn?á\;yckst \;&ndash\; \;s inixt\, \;s?np??ilx \;&ndash\; \;san \;poil\, and \;tk &rsquo\;emlú\;ps \;te \;secwepemc \;&ndash\; \;shusw ap)\, will \;explore \;skinning materials for application to sturg eon-nosed canoe interpretations from the Plateau culture region\, as well as the recovery of \;handheld \;scale implements like basketry and salmon nets. \;
