 es will learn about the principles and cultural history of Kwanzaa through
  the arts as a pre-cursor for a City-wide Kwanzaa celebration (December 26
 th - January 1st).</p>\n<p>Kwanzaa is a weeklong celebration held in the U
 nited States that honors African heritage in African-American culture. The
  seven principles (nguzo saba) of Kwanzaa utilize Kiswahili words: unity (
 umoja)\, self-determination (kujichagulia)\, collective work and responsib
 ility (ujima)\, cooperative economics (ujamaa)\, purpose (nia)\, creativit
 y (kuumba)\, and faith (imani). Seven candles signify the principles. <str
 ong>Kwanzaa 365</strong>\, a community initiative sponsored by an array of
  local organizations\, aims to infuse the principles of Kwanzaa all year l
 ong and provide a local celebration of Kwanzaa in our community. This <str
 ong>Young Artist's Studio</strong> workshop lends itself to that mission.<
 /p>\n<p><em>Due to the pandemic\, we ask participants to be patient with s
 ocial distancing requirements you will encounter during the program.&nbsp\
 ; Masks will be required to attend this program.&nbsp\;</em></p>\n<p>To ke
 ep everyone safe\, space is limited.&nbsp\; Register to reserve your spot.
 &nbsp\; One household per registration.</p>\n<p>The <strong>Young Artist's
  Studio</strong> is a series of art workshops sponsored by <strong>The Urb
 ana Free Library</strong> and <strong>The Urbana Arts &amp\; Culture Progr
 am</strong> designed to offer youth an opportunity to explore cultural lea
 rning and the arts. All events in the series are free and open to the publ
 ic. The series is designed for children ages 5 to 11 (7 and under with a c
