Ms. Carter was a social justice and civil rights trailb lazer and the only Black woman prosecutor in the trial of the century&mdas h\;the 1936 trial that convicted the notorious gangster "Lucky" Luciano. C harles "Lucky" Luciano \;was an Italian-born American mobster best kno wn for \;engineering the structure of modern organized crime in the Un ited States.
\nThe trial of mob boss "Lucky" Luciano in the summer o f 1936 lasted a month\, and 68 prosecution witnesses took the stand under tight security. Special Prosecutor Thomas Dewey assembled an all white\, a ll male legal team-- except for Black attorney Eunice Hunton Carter. Ms. C arter established the critical link between prostitution and the mob that won a conviction.
