DESCRIPTION:Join us for a virtual discussion of Reyna Grande's extraordina
 ry memoir "Distance Between Us.".\nhttps://alexandria.libnet.info/event/61
 04040
X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>In this extraordinary memoir\, award-winni
ng writer Reyna Grande vividly brings to life her tumultuous early years\,
capturing all the confusion and contradictions of childhood\, especially
one spent torn between two parents and two countries. Elated when she feel
s the glow of her father&rsquo\;s love and approval\, Reyna knows that at
any moment he might turn angry or violent. Only in books and music and her
rich imaginary life does she find solace\, a momentary refuge from a worl
d in which every place feels like &ldquo\;El Otro Lado.&rdquo\;</p>\n<p>Th
e Diversity Book Club is hosted monthly by AAUW Alexandria / Women Buildin
g Cross-Cultural Friendships (WBCCF) and co-sponsored by the Alexandria Bu
rke Branch Library.</p>\n<p>WBCCF's goal is to give women the opportunity
in a diverse and inclusive group to enrich their own lives through these r
elationships and help amplify the voices of all women in our community. WB
CCF&nbsp\;believes that the opportunity to come together to explore issues
of race\, religion\, ethnicity\, etc. through well-chosen books will not
only further our individual learning but also create a setting in which we
might ultimately decide on a community undertaking with wider implication
s.</p>\n<p>The Diversity Book Club meets on the second Monday of each mont
