The American Library Association's (ALA) O ffice of Intellectual Freedom reported over 300 book challenges from Septe mber-November last year\, nearly reaching the 337 total challenges reporte d in all of 2019. According to the ALA\, many of the challenges seek "to r emove materials that focus on LGBTQIA+ issues and books by Black authors o r that document the Black experience or the experiences of other BIPOC ind ividuals."
