\nCulturally and socially\, the Tudor perio d saw many changes. The Tudor court played a prominent part in the cultura l Renaissance taking place in Europe\, bringing to the forefront\, individ uals such as William Shakespeare and the poet Edmund Spenser.
\nThe Tudor period is most famous for \;Henry VIII's creation of the Church of England. Referred to as the Protestant Reformation\, it changed England from a Catholic country to a Protestant one.

\nPresented by: Robert O. Bucholz (D. Phil.\, University of Oxford\, 1988\; A.B. Cornell Univers ity\, 1980) is a professor of history at Loyola University Chicago\, where he teaches courses on the history of early modern Great Britain\, the cit y of London and Western Civilization.
\nProfessor Bucholz is a leadi ng authority on the history of the British court\, the social history of e arly modern England\, and the emergence of London as global cultural cente r during and after the sixteenth century. \;He has written numerous a rticles and book chapters which have appeared in "The Court Historian\," " the \;Journal of British Studies\," and other publications. Bucholz&rs quo\;s most recent book\, "London: A Social and Cultural History\, 1550-17 50" (Cambridge University Press\, 2012) with J. P. Ward\, has been describ ed as a &ldquo\;remarkably successful attempt to describe how the city rea ched the cusp of 'modernity\,' how it emerged from relative obscurity in t he middle of the sixteenth century to become . . . \;'the greatest ci ty in Europe.'&rdquo\; \; His best-selling "Early Modern England\, 148 5-1714: A Narrative History" (3rd \;ed. Wiley-Blackwell\, 2019)\, co-a uthored with N. E. Key\, traces the transformation of England during the T udor&ndash\;Stuart period\, from a feudal European state to a constitution al monarchy and the wealthiest and most powerful nation on earth. \;\n
