Winner of the 2022 Thomas Jefferson Teachi ng Award at The College of William and Mary\, Dr. Hein uses a wide range o f laboratory and field tools and techniques to study costal geology over t imescales ranging from decades to millennia. His \;primary research fo cuses on the mainland and barrier islands of the Eastern Shore of Virginia \, but Dr. Hein also has active projects studying dune processes in the No rth Carolina Outer Banks\; barrier-island processes in the Gulf of Maine\; coastal processes and paleoclimate as recorded in the beach- and foredune -ridge systems of southern Brazil\; and marshes processes along much of th e US East Coast.
