 s eliminating discrimination in our region on the basis of sexual orientat
 ion\, gender identity and gender expression\, through education\, activism
  and other anti-defamation efforts</p>\n<p>Equality Toledo (ET) began as a
  response to the passage of Ohio&rsquo\;s Issue One amendment in November 
 2004\, which made it unconstitutional for the state to perform or recogniz
 e same-sex marriages or civil unions. The founding members were actively i
 nvolved in opposing Issue One and educating communities about the conseque
 nces of its passage. Despite the diligent efforts of concerned citizens\, 
 the Issue One amendment became Article 15\, Section 11 of the Ohio Constit
 ution. The amendment passed because of the lack of an effective statewide 
 coalition in the lesbian\, gay\, bisexual and transgender community and it
 s allies. ET was formed to address this deficiency. Since that time a lot 
 has been accomplished for the LGBTQ communities in the Greater Toledo Area
 \, including the Supreme Court ruling in favor of marriage equality on Jun
 e 26\, 2015.&nbsp\; However\, there is still work to be accomplished.</p>\
 n<p>The Human Relations Commission (HRC) endeavors to support a safe\, ene
 rgetic\, and livable city. The Commission support residents working to ove
 rcome prejudice and build mutual respect.&nbsp\; HRC provides free mediati
 on services as well as resources and programs through its four (4) committ
 ees: Community &amp\; Neighborhoods\, Stop the Violence\, Social Justice a
 nd Youth Empowerment &amp\; Engagement which are led by mayoral appointed 
 residents representing a broad range of community perspectives.&nbsp\;</p>
 \n<p>This event is presented by <a href="https://equalitytoledo.org">Equal
 ity Toledo</a> and sponsored by the <a href="https://www.hrc.toledo.oh.gov
 /">City of Toledo Human Relations Commission</a>. It is part of <a href="h
