\nAs the c rossroads city of the Midwest\, Columbus has always thrived. Over the year s\, many of the city&rsquo\;s most important and most beautiful buildings& mdash\;packed with marble\, ornate metalwork\, painted ceilings and glitz and glamour&mdash\;have been reduced to dust or left in disrepair. Union S tation and stately mansions of well-to-do industrialists are no longer the re to tell the story of the city. The Alfred Kelley Mansion\, the Chittend en Hotel\, the Franklin County Courthouse and the Walk of Wonders in the G reat Western Shopping Center were lost\, but the palatial Ohio Theatre and the modest Captain Eddie Rickenbacker Home\, both designated National His toric Landmarks\, were saved.

\nDoreen Uhas Sauer is a longtime educator associated with Columbus Ci ty Schools and a past Ohio Teacher of the Year. She has served as board pr esident for the Columbus Landmarks Foundation and has received statewide r ecognition for her work in preservation education.
\nTom Betti is de dicated to bringing history to life through entertaining storytelling. He served on the board of Columbus Landmarks Foundation for two full terms an d chaired the Education Committee. Tom was lead researcher on the National Register of Historic Places nominations for both the Hartman Hotel Buildi ng and the Athletic Club of Columbus.
