e easing of covid restrictions\, once again the National Mall is alive wit
h activity as visitors from near and far explore our reopened national mus
eums and monuments\, stroll the majestic public open space\, and participa
te in First Amendment celebrations and protests. But challenges loom\, and
solutions are hard to come by.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>The Smithsonian is seeking
locations in DC for two new museums &ndash\; the Women&rsquo\;s History Mu
seum and the Museum of the American Latino. Congress prefers sites on the
National Mall. Government planning agencies disagree. The Mall\, they say\
 , is full &ndash\; a &ldquo\;completed work of civic art.&rdquo\; Where wi
ll they go?</p>\n<p>Protective of the new turn grass it installed in 2016\
, the National Park Service wants to move large public gatherings off the
Mall. In recent years\, the popular Solar Decathlon and National Book Fest
ival have decamped to other locations. What is the future of public activi
ty on the Mall?</p>\n<p>Flooding is an existential threat to Smithsonian m
useums and collections\, to our monuments\, and to the whole Federal Trian
gle area\, as highlighted last fall on the front page of The New York Time
 s. Why is there no agreed-upon solution?</p>\n<p>Join art historian Judy S
cott Feldman\, chair of the nonprofit National Mall Coalition\, to learn a
bout the problems and ongoing efforts to address them\, and to consider so
me solutions proposed by the architects\, historians\, and planners of the
  Coalition.</p>\n<p style="border: 5px solid black\; padding: 50px\; backg
