X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>Based on his 45 years as a woodworker and
25 years as a teacher of&nbsp\;handcrafts\, in his newest book Doug Stowe
argues that human beings have a natural need to express themselves creativ
ely through tangible work. The use of one&rsquo\;s hands and whole body to
make physical things and reshape our surroundings promotes both physical
and mental health and fosters a sense of mastery in both young and adult s
tudents.</p>\n<p>Stowe presents a clear call for the renewal of American e
ducation through a strategic implementation of the hands\, and notes the v
alue of creating useful beauty in service to others and our own growth as
well.</p>\n<p>&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Books will be available for purchase and sig
 ning after the presentation.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>&nbsp\;</p>\n<p><strong>Doug S
towe</strong> began his woodworking career in 1976. Doug founded the Eurek
a Springs Guild of Artists and Craftspeople in 1977. By 1995\, he started
writing books and articles about woodworking. In 1998\, he was one of thre
e founders of the&nbsp\;Eureka Springs School of the Arts.</p>\n<p>He is t
he founder of the Wisdom of the Hands Program at the&nbsp\;Clear Spring Sc
hool\, a small independent school in Eureka Springs\, Arkansas. He has als
o been named an&nbsp\;Arkansas Living Treasure by the&nbsp\;Arkansas Arts
Council for his work with wood and in education. He has published over 100
articles in various woodworking magazines and educational journals and ha
s written 13 books on woodworking techniques\, in addition to his newest b
ook\, "The Wisdom of Our Hands."</p>\n<p>Doug continues to teach woodworki
ng grades 1-12 at the&nbsp\;Clear Spring School\, to work daily in his own
shop\, and to travel around teaching adult woodworking classes for school
s and clubs. He lives in a hardwood forest at the edge of Eureka Springs\,
Arkansas\, with his wife\, Jean.</p>\n<p>For more information about Doug
