Ubuntu is an African philosophy that expre sses our humanity and interconnectedness. Drumming is an activity that bri ngs people\, groups or communities together. When these two are meshed\, w hat we get is a musical gathering depicting our link to one another. Every one is immediately connected through the making of music and drumming. Thi s is an interactive program that brings together impromptu musicians (made up of the audience) playing unique beats on the drums and other percussio n instruments\, creating rhythmic harmony and celebrating humanity. This i s an intergenerational kinesthetic activity that everyone can enjoy regard less of musical ability. Please only register one person per famil y.
\nThere will also be garden games out\, storytelling aro und the fire\, crafts and the Just Fo&rsquo\;Fun food truck will be on sit e for participants who wish to purchase a snack.
\nAbout the Presenter:
\nBabarinde Wi lliams\, ethnomusicologist\, master drummer\, storyteller and motivati onal speaker has traveled throughout his native West Africa studying tradi tional percussion\, dance\, and storytelling techniques. He has also been featured on Tedtalks (University of Windsor) and other academic forums. Ba barinde Williams has a B.A (Honors) in English and an Education Diploma fr om George Brown College.
\nThis program will take place outside at t he gazebo\, at the John M. Harper branch. If you own a drum then please br ing it with you. Participants are also asked to bring their own lawn chair s.
