Rutgers University&rsquo\;s Center for Oce an Observing Leadership (RUCOOL) has been deploying and piloting autonomou s underwater vehicle&rsquo\;s (AUVs) called gliders throughout the global ocean for over 20 years. These robots carry different sensors to collect d ata on a wide range of oceanographic parameters (temperature\, salinity\, pH\, oxygen\, currents). The data collected by these robots allow scientis ts to collect a baseline on past and current ocean conditions as well as m onitor these conditions might be impacted by climate change. PhD student J oe Gradone has been part of a team of scientists piloting gliders and anal yzing their data and will give a talk on his work studying the circulation of heat throughout the Caribbean region.
\nJoe is a PhD student usi ng autonomous underwater vehicles (ocean robots) to study climate and hurr icanes. He uses these robots to collect data on how much heat and salt are transported from all the way down in the Caribbean to the east coast of t he US.
