X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>Christine French Cully\, Editor In Chief o
f <em>Highlights</em>\, will discuss the why\, what\, and how of Hidden Pi
ctures&mdash\;a visual puzzle made famous by the iconic children&rsquo\;s
publisher headquartered in Columbus\, Ohio. Beginning with the very first
issue\, published in June 1946\, <em>Highlights</em> magazine has included
a Hidden Pictures puzzle in every issue&mdash\;and many collections of th
ese puzzles are available in book format\, as well as in a digital app.</p
 >\n<p>Christine will share examples of the various kinds of Hidden Picture
 s puzzles&mdash\;the classic black-and-white illustration\, the full-color
puzzles\, the puzzles created from cut paper or photographs\, the super c
hallenging puzzles\, and the puzzles created for beginners. The small hidd
en objects may be all the same or each one different&mdash\;and the larger
illustration always hints at a story\, often humorous. For decades\, the
art was reflective art\, but these days it is usually created digitally.</
p>\n<p>Christine will also discuss the educational benefits of this belove
d puzzle. Searching and finding the hidden objects helps kids develop a wi
de variety of skills related to learning. The puzzles are also used often
with seniors who say the puzzles help keep their minds sharp. Although the
puzzles look deceptively simple to create\, hiding the hidden objects wel
l is a special skill every Hidden Pictures puzzle illustrator must acquire
. In this program\, Christine will show the various ways an artist may hid
e a hidden object.</p>\n<p>Hidden Picture Puzzles are on display Lower Gal
lery of the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio (DACO)-September 24-December 31
\, 2022. This program is in partnership with the Decorative Arts Center of
  Ohio.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>In person registration is <em>requested</em>.<b>&nbs
