DESCRIPTION:Has all the astronomy news of the summer turned you into a sky
-watcher? Join us at Duncan Library for a talk on recent research about bl
 ack holes..\nhttps://alexandria.libnet.info/event/6962106
X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>Black holes are among the most enigmatic o
bjects in the universe\, and come in a variety of sizes\, from several tim
es the mass of the Sun to monsters with many billions of times the mass of
the Sun (and maybe even atomic-sized ones).&nbsp\; New advances in astrop
hysical instruments - with traditional electromagnetic observations as wel
l as new ones using particles and gravitational waves - make this a golden
age of black hole research.&nbsp\; Recent findings from gravitational&nbs
p\;waves and the early universe are challenging traditional views.</p>\n<p
 >Dr. Joe Pesce is an astrophysicist whose primary area of interest is in t
he external environments of the galaxies hosting supermassive black holes.
&nbsp\; He is currently a Program Officer at the <a href="https://www.nsf.
gov/">National Science Foundation</a>\, responsible for most of the Govern
ment's ground-based radio astronomy facilities.</p>\n<p>The image is of th
