The history of the Indigenous hairpipe is shrouded in mystery. This ages old object of adornment is an esteemed part of Indigenous material culture. In this session Indigenous artist\, curat or and educator\, Naomi Smith will discuss the ways the hairpipe is used\, as well as the materials and ideas around how the hairpipe got it&rsquo\; s name. Who would of thought there could be so much Indigenous history inc orporated in the hairpipe? Following the presentation is an opportunity fo r participants to construct their own hairpipe creation using traditional materials and an easy stringing method. Indigenous teachings will be part of the learning experience.

&bull\; Cool facts about the hairpi pe and its many uses
&bull\; How to construct a hairpipe bracelet usi ng sinew\, deer and moose hide\, a hairpipe and assorted glass beads.

How it Works:

  1. Register for the program in order to receive a free material kit.
    2. \n
  2. Kits will be available for pickup from Glen Abbey branch no sooner than seven (7) days prior to the program. Library staff will email participants when the kits are avail able.

  3. Join us on Zoom to create together. Anyone under the age o f 13 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the program.

  4. Take a picture of your creation. Post it to social using the hashtag #oplcreationzone or email us at creationzone@oakville.ca \;
