This presentation will walk the audience i n the footsteps of the Spokane tribe from pre-contact to present day. The Spokane tribe\, a semi-nomadic river people lived upon the land which the city of Spokane sits and flourished from the three million acres which the y call home. \;
\nJoin us as the Spokane's greeted with open arm s the first fur traders to Washington\, the first priests and missionaries to arrive\, meet the soldiers who threatened the peaceful Spokane's\, and walk with the tribal people as they were forced onto reservations. We wil l take a look at the impacts boarding schools had on the tribe. We will th en look at the eras of allotment\, relocation\, termination as well as adv ancements through legislative changes\, self-governance and gaming. Finall y\, we will discuss how tribal society looks today.
