Help us celebrate 20 years of art and lite racy! The Annual Ashley Bryan Art Series! This year's featured author/illu strator is \;Jerry Craft!

This year we start a new tradition: the Ashley Bryan Youth Art Festival! This will be a day o f creation\, play\, and lots of fun! Face painting\, African storytelling and other live performances with over 10 different art making experiences.

There is something for everyone and all families are invited! Thi s event is free and open to the public.

By using sound effects instruments such as ra in sticks\, thunder drums\, ocean drums among others\, participants will p erform a live soundtrack for a water cycle narration. The activity promote s paying \; attention\, listening skills\, following instructions and teamwork while learning about the \; water cycle and its steps. \; \;

&n bsp\; \; \; \; Participants will learn how to create a fold able eight-page zine with: a sheet of computer paper\, pencil\, micron pen \, eraser\, and pair of scissors. She'll take you through \; her proce ss of brainstorming a story inspired by an Ashley Bryan quote (or whatever \; text you choose)\, sketching\, then \;inking some pages. Once the inked line art is complete\, \; Kaylani \;will *briefly discus s digital coloring through Photoshop and how to add an optional poster to the printable zine. By the end of the demonstration participants \; sh ould have an introductory knowledge of a foldable zine that is prepped for print reproduction or digital coloring. \;

About the African American Research Library and Cultural Center \;
The Broward County African American Research Library and Cult ural Center (AARLCC) \;is located in the Sistrunk community\, one of the oldest historically Black communities named for one of Fort Lauderd ale&rsquo\;s first Black physicians. Opening to the public on October 26\, 2002\, AARLCC became the third public library of its kind in the United S tates dedicated to the study of Black history and culture. The 60\,000 squ are-foot Center serves as a repository of materials related to the local\, national\, and international voices of the African diaspora with more tha n 85\,000 books\, manuscripts\, artifacts\, framed art\, print\, photograp hy\, audiovisual\, and documents held in our Adult Services Section and Sp ecial Collections. The Youth Services Section features a special collectio n of Coretta Scott King Award books and the Ashley Bryan Art Collection fr om illustrators of African Descent. AARLCC also features a 5\,000 sq. ft. museum\, a 300-seat state-of-the-art theatre\, and a Computer Training Cen ter.
