\n\nThe Brechner Center for Freedom of Information at t he University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications exists t o advance understanding\, appreciation and support for freedom of informat ion since 1977. Through education and promotion of freedom of information laws and policies\, the Center seeks to foster open government and a parti cipatory democracy.
\n\nJanet Coats is managing director of the \;Cons ortium on Trust in Media and Technology \;at the University of Florida . Coats has been at the forefront of the seismic shifts in journalism and information culture over the last 25 years. She&rsquo\;s led large multime dia news organizations\, done groundbreaking work in civic engagement and reader outreach\, and built her own consulting company focused on engageme nt and sustainability strategies for non-profit and entrepreneurial news o rganizations.
