In this workshop\, bestselling author Laur ie Friedman will guide participants through \;her process of identifyi ng the best place in the narrative to begin a story. She will share some e ffective and memorable openings from bestselling books. Then she will give 10 writing suggestions for unique ways to start a story to capture the at tention of a reader or editor. (Example: Starting a story with an unexpect ed statement.) \;This \;interactive workshop will include a writin g exercise for students to choose one of the strategies to write their own story opening. At the end\, there will be a question and answer session. Handouts will be emailed to participants.
