X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>Our Writing Education Specialist\, local n
ovelist Sharma Shields\, has been a longtime fan of fairy tales. From clas
sics like &ldquo\;Thumbelina&rdquo\; and &ldquo\;The Moon Child&rdquo\; to
modern retellings like Pan&rsquo\;s Labyrinth and Boy\, Snow\, Bird\, Sha
rma delights again and again in the tone\, style\, and magic of timeless t
ales.</p>\n<p>In this program\, Sharma will introduce various works of fic
tion and share writing prompts designed to help you create your own imagin
ative stories. Writers will examine what makes fairy tales so alluring and
metaphorical while also subverting more notorious fairytale notions such
as purity\, gender binaries\, and happy endings. Examples of what we'll di
 scuss include Kate Bernheimer&rsquo\;s essay\, &ldquo\;Fairy Tale is Form\
, Form is Fairy Tale\,&rdquo\; as well as the work of Hans Christian Ander
sen and the Zora Neale Hurston folktale picture book\, The Three Witches.<
/p>\n<p>Bring your writing instrument of choice (pen &amp\; paper or lapto
 p) and get ready to write imaginative tales all your own.</p>\n<p>By&nbsp\
;attending library programs\, you are agreeing to potentially appear in ph
otos/videos taken at our locations that may be used in promotional materia
ls including social media.</p>\n<p>We strive to make events welcoming for
people of all abilities. To request accommodations\, call the library at 5
