Workshop participants will be guided in the practice of cutting a scion (a small br anch of fruit tree wood) and attaching it to an existing tree or young roo t stock. \; Grafting enables gardeners to grow several varieties of fr uit\, harvested at different times acrosss the season\, on one tree.

For 30 years\, Fred Lichti has been grafting apple trees. \; Experi enced in both cleft and bud grafting\, he has enjoyed propagating heritage varieties and grafted many of the 25 trees in his backyard orchard in Elm ira.
