  bridges: narratives of necessity</em>&nbsp\;disrupts\, illuminates and re
 frames images and materials within a historical context in response to the
  social phenomenon surrounding "Black Resistance\," which is the theme for
  Black History Month\, established by the&nbsp\;Association for the Study 
 of African American Life and History.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>The exhibition focuse
 s on the evolution of radical community activist movements that became pro
 minent in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Through organizations like the B
 lack Panther Party\, The Young Lords Party\, &nbsp\;Brown Berets\, the Ame
 rican Indian Movement and others\, young people became the vanguard for so
 cial change felt nationally and globally.</p>\n<p>In addition to documenta
 ry photos\, the exhibition will include ephemera in the form of foreign bo
 oks\, pamphlets\, vintage buttons\, pins\, historical mainstream newspaper
 s\, flyers\, t-shirts\, vinyl records and posters. This exhibition is cura
 ted by Marie Vickles\, Director of Education at the P&eacute\;rez Art Muse
 um Miami\, and william cordova\, an interdisciplinary cultural practitione
 r and Guggenheim Museum Fellow.</p>\n<p><strong>About the African American
  Research Library and Cultural Center</strong></p>\n<p>The&nbsp\;Broward C
 ounty <a href="https://www.broward.org/Library/Pages/AARLCCStory.aspx" tar
 get="_blank" rel="noopener">African American Research Library and Cultural
  Center (AARLCC)</a>&nbsp\;is located in the Sistrunk community\, one of t
 he oldest historically Black communities named for one of Fort Lauderdale&
 rsquo\;s first Black physicians. Opening to the public on October 26\, 200
 2\, AARLCC became the third public library of its kind in the United State
 s dedicated to the study of Black history and culture. The 60\,000 square-
 foot Center serves as a repository of materials related to the local\, nat
 ional\, and international voices of the African diaspora with more than 85
 \,000 books\, manuscripts\, artifacts\, framed art\, print\, photography\,
  audiovisual\, and documents held in our Adult Services Section and Specia
 l Collections. The Youth Services Section features a special collection of
  Coretta Scott King Award books and the Ashley Bryan Art Collection from i
 llustrators of African Descent. AARLCC also features a 5\,000 sq. ft. muse
 um\, a 300-seat state-of-the-art theatre\, and a Computer Training Center.
