Award-winning writer Jack Nisbet will disc uss how research influences his writing in this monthly program featuring the Central Library's Inland Northwest Special Collections. Participants w ill be able to ask Jack questions about his writing process. Novelist and Writing Education Specialist Sharma Shields will provide resources to help writers uncover inspiration in the files\, maps\, books\, and online data bases of the Central Library. This will be an exciting session for anyone interested in writing non-fiction.

\nAbout th e author:
\nJack Nisbet lives and works with his wife Claire in Spok ane. He is the author of several collections of essays that explore the hu man and natural history of the Northwest\, including \;Purple Flat Top \, Visible Bones\, and \;Ancient Places. Nisbet has also written award -winning biographies of cartographer David Thompson (Sources of the River) and naturalist David Douglas (The Collector). Those projects led to furth er investigations that resulted in illustrated volumes titled \;The Ma pmaker&rsquo\;s Eye: David Thompson on the Columbia Plateau \;and \;David Douglas: A Naturalist at Work\, as well as traveling museum exhibi ts curated by Jack and Claire. In 2018\, the Washington State Historical S ociety presented Nisbet with the Robert Gray medal for distinguished and l ong-term contributions to Pacific Northwest history. Nisbet&rsquo\;s most recent project\, \;The Dreamer and the Doctor\, traces the unlikely ad ventures of plant lover John Leiberg and his physician wife Carrie.
