Adult Health Awareness Program (In -Person)
\nYour AARLCC library is hosting a health and well ness program. When most people think of health and wellness\, chances are the public library is not the first thing that comes to mind. However\, ov er the past few years\, public libraries have been playing an increasing r ole in supporting health and wellness literacy\, health-themed\, cancer aw areness\, and movement-based programs in our local communities. Libraries are focused on providing health education and do not aim to replace more t raditional venues for medical care or fitness. We seek to work with local and regional partners to ensure the wellbeing of their communities. Senior s and younger adults are welcome.

About the African American Research Lib
rary and Cultural Center \;
The \;Broward County African American Research Library and Cu
ltural Center \;(AARLCC) \;is located in the Sistrunk communit
y\, one of the oldest historically Black communities named for one of Fort
Lauderdale&rsquo\;s first Black physicians. Opening to the public on Octo
ber 26\, 2002\, AARLCC became the third public library of its kind in the
United States dedicated to the study of Black history and culture. The 60\
,000 square-foot Center serves as a repository of materials related to the
local\, national\, and international voices of the African diaspora with
more than 85\,000 books\, manuscripts\, artifacts\, framed art\, print\, p
hotography\, audiovisual\, and documents held in our Adult Services Sectio
n and Special Collections. The Youth Services Section features a special c
ollection of Coretta Scott King Award books and the \;Ashley Bryan Art
Collection \;from illustrators of African Descent. AARLCC also featur
es a 5\,000 sq. ft. museum\, a 300-seat state-of-the-art theatre\, and a C
omputer Training Center.
