The Allen County Public Library Genealogy Center and the Northeast Indiana Jewish Genealogy Society are ex cited to welcome Dr. Nicholas J. Evans\, a Senior Lecturer in diaspora his tory at the University of Hull\, for a series of free virtual programs on the first three Tuesdays in February\, beginning at 2:30 p.m. &ldquo\;The Making of a Mosaic: European Migrant Journeys During the Age of Steam&rdqu o\; will be presented in three parts. These lectures are in conjunction wi th the Genealogy Center&rsquo\;s Tuesday afternoon virtual programs.
\nDr. Evans\, a migrant historian\, will explore questions such as &lsquo \;why did so many Europeans leave?&rsquo\; &lsquo\;What was the journey re ally like?&rsquo\; Why when an ancestor arrived at Ellis Island did they s ettle in the mid-west?&rsquo\; He will illustrate how one can piece togeth er the gathering of ancestors from their village/town of birth to the mome nt they commenced their journey west.

Besides teaching both undergraduate and postgraduat
e students in the School of Humanities at the University of Hull\, Dr. Nic
holas Evans uses his research on voluntary and coerced migration around th
e Atlantic to empower religious and ethnic minority communities. He &ldquo
\;relishes&rdquo\; in helping people unearth the personal stories of their
migrant ancestors. Dr. Evans has spent the last 17 years as an academic r
esearcher in the prize-winning Wilberforce Institute for the study of Slav
ery and Emancipation in his home city of Hull\, England.
