row seat during&nbsp\;some trying times for the region. He wrote about pr
oblems with supply and contamination\, the fight over plans to have a pipe
line from Lake Erie constructed\, and others about the region's role as an
innovator.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Burtt has been retired for sixteen years and li
ves in Cambridge with his wife Sheila. When he isn't writing he enjoys gar
 dening\, woodwork and golf.</p>\n<p><strong>About Susan Bryant</strong></p
 >\n<p>In 1989\, Susan became an environmental activist when the municipal
water wells in Elmira were closed because of contamination from the Uniroy
al chemical plant. She was a founding member of APT Environment\, an Elmir
 a citizens&rsquo\; group which continues\, 30-some years later\, to monito
r the remediation and to advocate for a proper clean-up. APT is currently
focused on the creek flowing into the Grand River\, which remains contamin
ated with DDT and dioxins from the historic production DDT and Agent Orang
e at Uniroyal.</p>\n<p>Meeting Bob Burtt was one of the happier aspects of
1989 for Susan. At the time\, Bob was covering the Elmira water crisis as
environmental reporter for The Record. They talked often. Since then\, Bo
b and Susan have worked together on water-related projects and become frie
nds. They share an ongoing interest in water issues\, especially in the Re
gion of Waterloo.</p>\n<p>This program is presented in partnership with <a
