\nJune is Immigrant Heritage Month\, a time to celebrate the diversity and shared American heritage of immigrants throughout time.
\nMexico& nbsp\;gained independence from Spain in 1821\, but ever since it has alway s had a contentious relationship with its northern neighbor: the United St ates.
\nIn the 1830's\, immigration across the Mexican border was ac tually moving in the opposite direction than it is today. Thousands of Ame ricans and many recent immigrants to America were crossing the border \;into Mexico seeking land and opportunity. Does this sound like a reverse of current events? How did the discontent of these new American settlers end up creating a rebellion and move for \;independence? Ultimately\, this rebellion would result in a full scale war with the United States tha t would \;cost Mexico fifty five percent of its territory. \;
