In 2023\, the library is partnering with t he Missouri State Museum to focus on the history of Missourians at work. T his month\, learn how the history of newspapers in the American West began in St. Louis\, Missouri\, in 1808\, when Joseph Charless published the fi rst edition of the Missouri Gazette. Today\, the Library of Congress&rsquo \; Digital Newspaper Program has 20 million pages of historical newspapers from all 50 states freely available and accessible on the internet. Newsp apers are an ever-present part of our state and national culture. Dr. Sara h S. Jones educator with the Missouri State Museum examines the job of ear ly frontier journalists and &ldquo\;newspapermen&rdquo\; in the 19th centu ry American West.
\nDr. Jones\, a Missouri native\, grew up as an in door kid in the farming and lake community of Clinton in Henry county. She received her degrees in art history from the University of Nebraska - Kea rney and the University of Missouri. The State Historical Society of Misso uri recently named her a Center for Missouri Studies fellow for her projec t\, "Missouri's Post Office Murals: Artistic Expression\, Local Collaborat ions." Dr. Jones is a museum educator at the Missouri State Museum and Jef ferson Landing State Historic Site in Jefferson City.
