 a href="https://indyencyclopedia.org/l-s-ayres-and-company/">Ayres Store</
 a> the way many of us remember it standing at the southwest corner of Meri
 dian and Washington Streets. The history of Ayres begins in the late ninet
 eenth century. Ayres became the premier store in Indianapolis and was a fo
 rerunner with branch stores in central Indiana and other cities.</p>\n<p><
 strong>Presenter:</strong> Carol Hall has been a member of the Board of Di
 rectors for <a href="https://www.mchsindy.org/">Marion County Historical S
 ociety</a> for over thirty years and has served as president. Since 1991 s
 he has researched the history of the southside of Indianapolis primarily i
 n the <a href="https://indyencyclopedia.org/garfield-park-neighborhood/">G
 arfield Park neighborhood</a>. In 1992\, Carol made a presentation for the
  <a href="https://indianahistorians.org/">Indiana Association of Historian
 s</a> on the history of Garfield Park and another for the Marion County Hi
 storical Society. Her other research has included the history of the old <
 a href="https://indyencyclopedia.org/center-township/">Center Township</a>
  School system. Carol has conducted several walking tours of Virginia Aven
 ue\, focusing on <a href="https://indyencyclopedia.org/calvin-fletcher/">C
